Bedri Baykam

BIOGRAPHIE
Né à Ankara en 1957, Bedri Baykam est un artiste central de la nouvelle peinture abstractionniste en
Turquie, jouant un rôle clé dans l’émergence de ce courant dans les années 1980. Enfant prodige, il
expose très tôt et a depuis présenté plus de 150 expositions personnelles à travers le monde. Formé
à la Sorbonne, à l'Actorat (Paris), puis en peinture et cinéma en Californie, il s’impose dans les
années 1980 comme l’un des représentants du néo-expressionnisme et de l’art politique multimédia.
Acteur de la scène graffiti new-yorkaise, il conjugue pratiques subversives et engagement esthétique. Depuis les années 2000, il développe des lenticulaires « 4D » alliant technologies numériques, transparence matérielle et immersion sensorielle. Théoricien prolifique, auteur de plus de trente ouvrages, il a été le Président de l’Association Internationale des Arts Plastiques (IAA/AIAP), partenaire de l’UNESCO, et initiateur de la Journée Mondiale de l’Art, officiellement reconnue depuis 2019. Fondateur du centre d’art Piramid Sanat à Istanbul et éditorialiste pour Cumhuriyet, Baykam défend une approche de l’art comme champ critique et espace d’interaction civique
